HTML, or hyptertext markup language, is a computer language used to create websites.  HTML gives the computer information on what should appear on the webpage and how the page should look.

HTML defines everything about the page, from the title and content to the structure, tables, pictures, colors, fonts and layout.  The code is made up of a number of small pieces called elements that give information.  In the code, an HTML element is surrounded by two tags that show the beginning, end, and the type of element (a paragraph, formatting information, etc.).

HTML code for a webpage always begins with the <html>, <head> and <body> tags.  An internet marketing agency in particular will make use of information in the <head> tags, which influence the page’s ranks in the search engines (very helpful for SEO).  This info does not, however, appear in the actual page.  The <body> tag signals that information appearing within it will be visible on the page.

Meta tags are a piece of HTML written into the code of a website that provide some information that search engines use to index websites.  Search engines can pull information from the content of a web page in order to organize and rank it, but providing meta tag data makes it more efficient and gives you an advantage over your competition.

Meta tags go above the <body> tag, and if you press CTRL+U you can see them on any web page.  The four important meta tags for SEO are:

1. Description

<meta name=”description” content=”Write a captivating description of the webpage here.” />

The description tag will appear on the results page of a search engine.  It’s important to write a unique and relevant description of the page here to ensure that users find the information they’re looking for.  Don’t use the same description for each page on the website.

2. Keywords

<meta name=”keywords” content=”list your comma-separated keywords here” />

List the keywords your SEO campaign is targeting for that particular page here.  Remember to double-check your spelling.

3. Language

<meta http-equiv=”content-language” content=”en” />

This lets search engine bots know which language each page is in – an especially important feature if your site is in multiple languages.

4. Robots

<meta name=”robots” content=”index, follow” />

This tag tells search engines whether they can follow and index a page (and its links).  You and your internet marketing agency can also use this tag if you prefer that Google not crawl a page on your site.

3. Publique un segundo artículo en otro blog o sitio web. Este artículo B tendrá dos enlaces: uno que conduzca al sitio central y otro que conduzca al artículo A. Este artículo no tiene que estar en un sitio que este moderado por quien crea la rueda de enlaces, puede ser un sitio donde tenga permiso para publicar.
4. Publique un artículo C en un tercer sitio web. Este artículo también se enlaza con el sitio central y con el artículo B.
5. Haga lo mismo con un artículo D. Publíquelo en otro sitio y enlácelo con el sitio central y con el artículo C.
6. Cierre la rueda editando el artículo A. Este ya enlaza con el sitio central pero ahora debe estar unido al artículo D. Esto hace que la rueda este completa.
